Dean Huijsen will complete the season on a rental basis at AS Roma, the Romans announced through their own club channels. The rental contract does not include an option to purchase. The Dutch top talent says he is happy with his temporary transfer, while Roma coach José Mourinho is also pleased.

“I was immediately impressed by the reception I received,” Huijsen said in an initial response. “It was not difficult for me to choose Roma. I am joining a great club with a great coach and many champions with whom I have the privilege to share the dressing room. I hope we can achieve our goals together.”

For Mourinho, Huijsen is a temporary stopgap solution, as centre-backs Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla are out of action and Evan Ndicka is participating in the African Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.

The Portuguese coach is understandably happy with the arrival of the Dutch man, who will play with shirt number three at Roma. “Huijsen is one of the most talented centre-backs in Europe,” said Mourinho. “He will be a top player in the long term. He can make flying hours with us. Because of the Financial Fair Playrules, we could only rent it.”

Juventus receives a rental fee of 500,000 euros for Huijsen. If the born Amsterdammer plays fewer than ten matches on behalf of Roma, an additional 200,000 will be added.

There is a very real chance that Huijsen will play against Feyenoord, as the Romans will meet coach Arne Slot's team in the interim round of the Europa League on February 15 and 22.

The Dutch youth international is seen by Juventus as one of the greatest talents within its own youth academy. Huijsen is a starter at Juventus Next Gen, but only played twelve minutes in the main squad.

The young centre-back made his debut on behalf of Juve in October in the top match against AC Milan (0-1). Trainer Massimiliano Allegri had nice words for his pupil afterwards. “I'm happy that a boy from 2005 made his debut and was icy calm,” Allegri told reporters. DAZN. “He's going to have a great career, he's done great things.”

“He played calmly, he played easy balls, he did not cause problems for his teammates, he made an important intervention… just like Ciro Ferrara,” the Italian coach drew the comparison with a former defender and club icon of Juve.
