AS Roma had to go all out in the last league match before the Conference League return against Vitesse on Sunday. Jose Mourinho’s team fell behind early against Udinese and was able to draw a draw with great difficulty: 1-1. Earlier in the day, Napoli won against Verona (1-2), with which the number two in Serie A narrows the gap to leader AC Milan to three points.
Udinese – AS Roma 1-1
Roma, where Rick Karsdorp started in the base, was warned twice by Udinese in the opening phase and fell behind after fifteen minutes. Nahuel Molina took full advantage of a corner kick that had been deflected by chasing it in from seventeen meters: 1-0. The damage could have become even greater just before half-time, but Rui Patrício was able to tap a rock hard attempt by Jean-Victor Makengo against the crossbar. Roma gave full throttle and fought their way to a point in injury time in the second half. Lorenzo Pellegrini converted a penalty kick, which was achieved by an unfortunate handball by Rodrigo Becão: 1-1. Marvin Zegelaar came in for Udinese in the second half.

Verona – Napoli 1-2
After a conservative opening phase, the spell was finally broken by Victor Osimhen. Matteo Politano had a measured cross in the house to the club’s top scorer of Napoli, who headed in from close range: 0-1. Twenty minutes before time, Osimhen also received the ball on a silver platter from Giovanni Di Lorenzo, allowing him to score his second goal of the evening. Verona was able to somewhat bring the tension back into the game in the last fifteen minutes, after Davide Faraoni headed in a nice ball. However, the home team no longer claimed a point, as the Italian midfielder eventually ended the game with nine men. Both Federico Ceccherini and Faraoni were allowed to come in with a second yellow card after a handball.
