Arsenal scored a point at the last minute against Crystal Palace on Monday evening. Mikel Arteta’s team initially gave up its lead after Arsenal striker Bukayo Saka was literally kicked out of the game by James McArthur, who only got a yellow card. A late goal from substitute Alexandre Lacazette delivered the Gunners a draw, leaving Arsenal in twelfth place. Crystal Palace remains fourteenth.

The opening phase was for Arsenal and in the eighth minute that resulted in the first goal. Nicolas Pépé came in from the right and tried to curl the ball into the far corner. Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita tapped the ball to the side, where Aubameyang reacted alertly and tapped the ball in from a difficult angle: 1-0. Palace became stronger as the first half progressed, without immediately creating great opportunities. Arsenal lost in the final phase to Saka, who was kicked hard by James McArthur. Referee Mike Dean let the Palace midfielder get away with a yellow card.

At halftime it turned out that Saka had to be replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga, after which Arsenal quickly relinquished their lead. In the fiftieth minute Thomas Partey lost the ball, after which Christian Benteke dribbled past Gabriel in the penalty area and shot the ball into the far corner: 1-1. Aaron Ramsdale kept Arsenal going shortly afterwards by tapping a hard shot from André Ayew over his goal. On the other side, Lacazette had a big chance after a handy cross from Aubameyang, but Guaita reacted with an excellent reflex to the shot from the Arsenal striker.

Arsenal seemed to be in a better position at the time, but it was Palace that scored. Sambi Lokonga suffered a dangerous loss of ball in midfield, after which the visitors started a quick counter. Odsonne Édouard came on the edge of the penalty area in a one-on-one with Ben White, who did not intervene. Édouard shot the ball in from fifteen meters through the bottom of the bar: 1-2. Kieran Tierney had the equalizer on the shoe in the final phase, but the Arsenal left back hit the bar hard from close by. The Gunners managed to pull one more point out of the fire thanks to a final offensive. White’s shot hit Guaita’s feet, after which Lacazette took advantage in the rebound: 2-2.
