Arsenal achieved a hard-fought victory in the Premier League on Saturday evening. Mikel Arteta's team defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-2 thanks to goals from Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard. Arsenal's victory puts the ball back in Manchester City's court, which takes action on Thursday.

It was a week to forget for Arsenal. After the defeat against Aston Villa (0-2), the elimination from the Champions League by Bayern Munich followed in midweek. However, the Londoners did not have long to mourn, as they had to visit potential banana peel Wolverhampton.

Arteta decided to change his squad in three positions from the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern. Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jorginho and Gabriel Martinelli disappeared from the starting line-up. Replacing them were Jakub Kiwior, Gabriel Jesus and Trossard.

Both teams found it difficult to create clear-cut opportunities in the first half. A shot from Kai Havertz was easily saved by Jose Sa, while Declan Rice saw his effort from about twenty meters miss the post.

The home team's best opportunity was scored by João Gomes. The Brazilian was childishly easy to beat Kiwior and decided to try it himself in the short corner. However, David Raya got his hand behind the ball and was saved by the post.

Arsenal took the lead on the stroke of half-time. After a messy situation, Jesus got the ball from Trossard. It was not entirely clear what the Belgian had in mind, but his effort flew into the goal via the inside of the post: 0-1.

While the first act was not packed with entertainment, the second half offered even less spectacle. Twenty minutes before the end, Ben White met goalkeeper Sa. In addition, the Arsenal defender was flagged for offside.

Arteta had now brought in two fresh players and saw his team close the game in injury time through Odegaard. The midfielder saw his cross blocked, after which he did it himself in the short corner: 0-2.

With the win, Arsenal takes back the lead from Manchester City, which played one match less. The Gunners have 74 points, compared to City's 73. Liverpool is in third place with 71 points.
