Arsenal is still the leader of the Premier League. The formation from North London won the city derby at Chelsea and therefore surpasses Manchester City in the rankings: 0-1. A fumble goal from Gabriel Magalhães was enough for the three points, although the formation of trainer Mikel Arteta was the dominant party for ninety minutes.
Graham Potter, the Chelsea manager, again had no starting place in store for Hakim Ziyech. The number 22 of the Blues As so often this season, had to make do with a reserve role and saw Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang take the attacking positions. Arsenal defended the lead at Stamford Bridge with the eleven usual names.
The Gunners already knew after Manchester City’s win on Saturday that it would take a win at the London neighbors to remain in the lead after this Premier League round. The intentions to hold that place in their hands were also apparent from Arsenal’s game. Arteta’s men ruled West London and deserved to score. However, that goal was not made before halftime. Offensive forces like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus didn’t have their sights sharp.
It had to come from a defender for Arsenal after the break. A corner from Saka was put into the net by Gabriel Magalhães, who managed to put his foot against the ball between a forest of legs for the 0-1. Anyone who thought that Chelsea would be inspired by this to search for the equalizer, was disappointed. The Blues were unable to exert any pressure and were lucky enough that Arsenal could live with a 0-1 win in the end.
