Carlo Ancelotti hopes that Luka Modric will remain employed at Real Madrid for longer, he writes The Athletic Tuesday afternoon. The Italian trainer sees his pupil as an addition to the technical staff the Royal and so Ancelotti has offered Modric a role as coach.

Several Spaniards wrote earlier this month about Modric's impending departure from Real Madrid. The experienced midfielder has not featured much in the Santiago Bernabéu this season and would be looking forward to a transfer given his reserve role.

Although Modric no longer seems to have a future as a player at Real Madrid, the 38-year-old Croatian does not necessarily have to leave the Spanish capital. Ancelotti has therefore offered him a role in the technical staff.

The coach reportedly made that offer two months ago and Modric did not immediately agree. The 172-time international of Croatia would not like the end of his playing career and wants to play for at least one other club.

However, there is still the possibility that Modric will be active in a new role at Real Madrid from next season. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur player has not given a definitive answer to Ancelotti's proposal and is said to still be considering it, although Modric is leaning towards a 'no'.

Even the possibility that the midfielder will be active within the lines for Real Madrid in the coming season has not yet been ruled out, although it is described The Athletic this as 'the least realistic scenario'.

In the summer prior to the current season, Modric was able to leave Spain. There was interest from the Saudi Pro League, but the Real Madrid icon opted for a longer stay at Real Madrid.
