Tyrell Malacia was high on Marc Overmars’ wish list, Valentijn Driessen and Mike Verweij revealed on Friday evening. During the review of the Conference League match between Feyenoord and Olympique Marseille (3-2), the journalists logically conclude that various Feyenoord players play themselves in the spotlight of top clubs thanks to their good performances. In addition to Luis Sinisterra and Orkun Kökçü, Verweij and Driessen also drop the name of Malacia. The latter would previously have been at the top of the wish list of Overmars, former director of football affairs at Ajax.

“Whether there are other names on the lists of top clubs besides Kökçü and Sinisterra? Well, I think Malacia does too”, Verweij opens in the podcast kick off by The Telegraph† “I think Overmars wanted to make an attempt to bring in Malacia”, adds Driessen to his colleague. “He was even higher on Overmars’ list than Wijndal. I don’t think it’s going to happen now. Now I think Wijndal is at the top of the list.”

“It is really an open secret: Overmars was very charmed by Malacia”, continues Verweij. “Just like Erik ten Hag, by the way. They have also dared it with Berghuis. But I don’t think it is very wise for Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to start with a robbery at Feyenoord.” For the time being, Hamstra and Huntelaar are doing the honors at Ajax for the departed Overmars. Driessen adds with a wink that Arne Slot is the first name to be plucked from Feyenoord.

In a serious tone, Verweij says that there is currently no news about Ajax’s possible interest in the services of the Feyenoord trainer. “The only development is that it is deafeningly quiet. Behind the scenes, a lot of hard work is being done to find a suitable successor to Erik ten Hag. Time is simply taken, because they have that time too. But Schreuder is in very good shape and he is the main candidate. People do talk with others, also because you have to have a broad picture of the future. But I think they will eventually end up with Schreuder,” concludes the journalist.
