Latest update:

Ajax midfielder Kian Fitz-Jim spoke with Juventus last summer, journalist and club watcher Tim van Duijn writes in an extensive article on behalf of Football International. The twenty-year-old Amsterdammer considered his options, but ultimately opted for a loan to Excelsior.

In January, Fitz-Jim was brought back early from Kralingen, as trainer John van 't Schip at Ajax needed an extra controller. Ultimately, the talent only came into action again on Thursday evening in the Amsterdam main squad, during Ajax's 1-1 draw with Go Ahead Eagles.

According to Van Duijn's information, Fitz-Jim's season could have looked very different. “From conversations with Sven Mislintat and Maurice Steijn earlier this season, it became clear that there was little perspective for him at Ajax. He considered his options and spoke with Juventus, among others, but was afraid of drowning among all the top talents and opted for development with Excelsior.”

Explanation Of The Ship

Fitz-Jim could have played in Turin, but signed on loan with Excelsior. After twelve official matches he returned to Ajax, with the expectation that he would play a role in the first team. In recent months, however, Fitz-Jim has mainly had to settle for playing minutes in Jong Ajax.

Van 't Schip even showed remorse to Fitz-Jim during a press conference. “It's quite a bit of a blow for him now, but we had to make an assessment at that moment. At that point we didn't actually have one '6' and we had to go into the competition two weeks later. Then you look at what is possible and not much was possible. But that has now changed.”

Fitz-Jim response

Fitz-Jim himself has also spoken out about his situation in recent months. “I find it mentally quite difficult to play for Jong Ajax,” the midfielder said last month Ajax Life. “If I am very honest, I think I have already outgrown the level of Young Ajax for a year.”

Fitz-Jim is still contracted to the Johan Cruijff ArenA until mid-2027. The youth international has played five official matches in Ajax's main squad so far. According to Transfer market the controller is currently worth 1 million euros.
