In the search for a new right back, Ajax has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. A return of Ki-Jana Hoever would, according to The Athletic be possible. The Amsterdammers have two options in the event of a deal: a transfer on a rental basis or depositing a hefty sum of money. Twenty-year-old Hoever would the Wolves should generate more than ten million euros.

In the summer of 2020, Wolverhampton took over the right-back from Liverpool for the same amount of ten million euros. So far, Hoever has played 25 times for the club. He was recently admonished publicly by trainer Bruno Lage who believes that the native of Amsterdam should become both fitter and more professional. According to The Athletic there is still confidence within the club that the youth international of the Dutch can pick up on this. How far is fixed until mid-2025.

Hoever went through almost the entire youth academy of Ajax, but left in August 2018 at the age of sixteen to embark on an English adventure. He did not yet have a professional contract and was therefore cheap to pick up by Liverpool. From December 2018 he was allowed to train with the first team and in January 2019 he made his professional debut for The Reds† “I was surprised that I was offered a contract from Ajax, because I had already had the feeling that I was not appreciated how I thought I should be appreciated. That I made my debut in Liverpool 1 six months later, also says I think I was ready for the Under-19 of Ajax, I think,” Hoever said in conversation with Football International about his departure.

Ajax saw right back Noussair Mazraoui leave for Bayern Munich on a free transfer and therefore seems to be looking externally for a replacement. It was previously thought that the club would resolve this internally with Devyne Rensch, Youri Regeer and Liam van Gelderen. The latter has since left for FC Groningen. This yielded the Amsterdammers about four tons. In the past decade, many right-backs from their own youth broke through in the first. In addition to Mazraoui, Gregory van der Wiel, Ricardo van Rhijn and Kenny Tete followed this route.
