Ajax rents Mohamed Ihattaren from Juventus until January 1, 2023, reports The Telegraph Sunday. The lease includes an option to purchase two million euros. The paperwork was sorted out on Sunday, the newspaper reports. Ihattaren will undergo the last part of his medical examination on Monday at De Toekomst.

On Monday, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Ajax fully agrees with Juventus on a rental period with an option to buy. Juventus had previously agreed ‘in outline’ with FC Utrecht about a rental period. Due to ‘financial issues’ between Ihattaren and Juventus, the rental transfer to Utrecht could not yet be completed, wrote The Telegraph.

Ihattaren has been working with Gerald Vanenburg for several weeks to improve his condition and the former international is said to have sent a positive signal to Ajax. The attacking midfielder made the switch from PSV to Juventus for almost two million euros last summer. Former agent Mino Raiola guided Ihattaren to Juventus, although he did not consider his client ripe for a step abroad.

Ihattaren was immediately loaned to Sampdoria until mid-2022, where he was only part of the match selection once. Suddenly the attacking midfielder stayed away from training, after which it was announced that he would be ‘unlucky’ in Italy. The Telegraph reports that Ihattaren “realises what capacity he will come in in” having not played a game in over half a year, and he is ready to fight for his chance.

An earlier version of this article mentioned a rental period of two years. However, this is a one-year deal.
