Ajax is seriously interested in Jorge Sánchez of Club América, but first wants to sell a number of superfluous players. Journalist Mike Verweij reports this in the football podcast on Monday Kick-Off from The Telegraph. Sean Klaiber, among others, would be allowed to leave Amsterdam. According to the General Newspaper FC Utrecht wants to bring him back to the Galgenwaard.

Verweij already reported last Friday that Ajax is interested in 24-year-old Sánchez, who will have to cost about five million euros. The Mexican right-back has so far played 148 official games for Club América, in which he accounted for two goals and eight assists. On Monday, Verweij will provide an update on the possible transfer from Sánchez to Ajax. “Ajax is very interested in him. However, the Supervisory Board believes that Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar should first sell players,” said Verweij.

Utrecht can offer a solution for the people of Amsterdam. It General Newspaper reports Monday evening that the club from the Domstad is still looking for additional reinforcements. The name of Klaiber, who was superfluous at Ajax, would have been dropped. Klaiber would be allowed to leave for a reasonable price after his disappointing performance in Amsterdam. Ajax took over Klaiber from Utrecht in October 2020 for 4.25 million euros. Since then, he has played 22 official games for the club, providing three assists.

Klaiber became national champion twice with Ajax. Furthermore, he won one TOTO KNVB Cup with the club. Nevertheless, Klaiber was unable to make himself popular with the public in more than a season and a half with the team from Amsterdam. In Utrecht, the right back was popular. Klaiber played 152 official games for Utrecht, in which he was accurate nine times and provided 21 assists. He is a three-time international of Suriname. Utrecht already has three right backs in its ranks with Hidde ter Avest, Mark van der Maarel and newcomer Joshua Rawlins.
