Latest update:

Now that Alex Kroes has returned to the Amsterdam organization as titular technical director, Ajax seems to be resuming the hunt for a trainer. Graham Potter seems to be the main candidate. As the Englishman's assistant, club icon Christian Chivu is 'seriously in the picture', it reports Algemeen Dagblad.

Chivu is currently the youth coach of Inter. As manager, he is in charge of the Under 19 selection of the Italian champions. He took office there in the summer of 2021. He coached that group for 108 matches and before that he was also ultimately responsible for the Under 18 team and the Under 17 selection of i Nerazzurri.

Ajax is busy filling out the technical staff for next season. Marijn Beuker had a conversation with Ajax Life know that the Amsterdammers themselves selected two of the three assistants, one of which the new trainer can also bring with him.

“In the current situation, the new trainer can bring his own assistant, provided he fits our vision,” Beuker was noted at the time. “That means that we appoint the other two assistants from Ajax ourselves.”

Beuker also hinted at the idea that one of those assistants celebrated successes with the club. “As far as we are concerned, one of them should be someone who knows from Ajax what winning the Champions League means.”

Chivu obviously did not win the Champions League with Ajax, but there has been buzz in the corridors for some time about who Beuker was referring to with his comment. In the Pantelic Podcast and with Kick Offthe podcast series of The Telegraph the names of Edgar Davids and Jari Litmanen were mentioned.

Hedwiges Maduro and Michael Valkanis are currently the assistants in Ajax's main squad. Valkanis is leaving because John van 't Schip will take up another position within the club. Current Jong Ajax coach Dave Vos is also highly regarded within the club.
