FC Porto will take over Jorge Sánchez’s full salary, Mike Verweij reports on Thursday evening. Ajax’s right back is about to make the switch to the Portuguese top club on a rental basis, which has also stipulated a purchase option in the agreement. Although the deal has been finalized in principle, the Mexican international has traveled with the selection of trainer Maurice Steijn for the play-off match for the Europa League with Ludogorets.

It is somewhat striking that Sánchez has traveled to Bulgaria, as the rental transfer with purchase option has already been concluded. Although the right back does not start in the base, he is in the stands. The only reason for this is that FC Porto has not yet provided a bank guarantee. The people of Amsterdam want to be sure that the money is transferred from Portugal. To prevent injuries, Sánchez will therefore not take action.

Furthermore, Verweij reveals that Porto will take over Sánchez’s full salary, approximately 900,000 euros. At first, director of football affairs Sven Mislintat wanted the Portuguese to also pay a rental fee, but when the deal seemed to ricochet, Ajax decided against it. Sánchez can make the final switch if he plays a certain number of games for Porto, which will then pay a transfer fee of 3.8 million euros.

Sánchez was added to Ajax’s selection at the last minute last summer. With a transfer fee of approximately 5 million euros, the Mexican is one of the most expensive right backs in club history, but could not live up to it in his first season. He was unable to win the competition against Devyne Rensch and is therefore already on his way to the exit a year after his arrival.
