The Ajax fans will not wave white flags on Thursday evening, as is tradition during European matches. According to Ajax Life the flags could not reach Amsterdam on time due to a delivery problem. The Ajax fan platform sees the humor in it: “Now waving a white flag usually stands for surrender…”

Before the start of every European match, Ajax fans wave the flags. The logos of the Amsterdam team and the opponents that evening are usually printed on it. Ajax will therefore have to do without a white welcome wall against Olympique Marseille. A small downer, but certainly not the biggest this week.

Dark clouds hang over Amsterdam for several reasons. The results are disappointing and Sven Mislintat is being investigated for a conflict of interest in at least the transfer of Borna Sosa. The F-side is calling for the departure of the supervisory board, which they believe is the root of all disaster. Ajax Life states that the flag problem therefore ‘completely fits the situation’ in which the club finds itself.

In any case, Ajax hopes to get the European season off to a good start. Maurice Steijn’s team shares a group with, in addition to Marseille, Brighton & Hove Albion and AEK Athens. Ajax kicks off the match with the French at 9 p.m. Referee Maurizio Mariani and his team have to keep things on track.
