The Greek mobile unit prevented an attack on Ajax fans on Thursday evening. Fans of the Amsterdam team were on their way to the stadium for the Europa League match with AEK Athens when supporters of the opposing team suddenly opened the attack. The riot police were ready and managed to prevent a battle.

From images in the hands of the social media page Football Ultras it turns out that Ajax supporters are being attacked by a group of Greeks. The local authorities seemed to be aware of the plans, as the riot police arrived on the scene very quickly and prevented escalation.

According to reports, all Ajax fans, approximately six hundred, have now reached the away section safely. It is not yet known whether there have been any (minor) injuries. Furthermore, it is also unclear whether the Greek police have made any arrests.

“The AEK supporters planned to give the Ajax supporters a warm welcome, but the local riot police managed to stand their ground and prevented this,” can be read on the page of Football Ultras. “We are curious to see how the rest of the evening goes. The six hundred Ajax supporters have already taken their seats in the away section.”

Ajax also visited AEK Athens in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in the 2018/2019 season. The match in Greece ended 0-2 thanks to two goals from Dusan Tadic. At the time, fireworks bombs were thrown into the away section.
