Steven Bergwijn has a future at Tottenham Hotspur. The 24-year-old attacker, who is in the explicit interest of Ajax, among others, has made a good impression on trainer Antonio Conte in recent weeks. The coach sees an important role for Bergwijn, so that a departure from London does not seem to be in the plans for the time being

Bergwijn opened the score on Wednesday in the EFL Cup match with West Ham United (2-1 win). The winger also provided the assist for the winning goal. “He played very well,” Conte said of the game afterwards. The Italian then praised Bergwijn’s fitness and his performance in training. “I think the past few weeks in which we miss so many players due to corona have made me and Steven understand what I want from him. He is well aware of what I ask of my players.”

Suddenly there seems to be perspective again for Bergwijn, who usually has to make do with substitutions. Ajax officially signed up for the Dutchman at the beginning of December and Sevilla and some French and German clubs would also be angling for his services, according to the report. Sky Sports. A possible arrival at Ajax should be related to the departure of David Neres. This week, however, it was announced that the team from Amsterdam would prefer to keep Neres until the end of the season.

Bergwijn has made twelve appearances for Tottenham in all competitions this season. The goal against West Ham was his first of the current year. In total, the former PSV player made 63 appearances for Tottenham, in which he found the net five times and produced nine assists. Bergwijn’s contract, who has been playing in London since the beginning of 2020, will continue until mid-2025.
