AZ also won its fourth competition match of the season. At home, coach Pascal Jansen’s team was too strong for Sparta Rotterdam 2-0. Halfway through the first half, Dani de Wit and Vangelis Pavlidis scored the Alkmaar goals. For the Rotterdam team it was the first defeat of the season in the Eredivisie.
Jansen made only one change compared to the won match against Vitesse (0-2): Ernest Poku had to make way for Mayckel Lahdo on the right flank. On the other side, coach Jeroen Rijsdijk also decided to only change the right winger position compared to the match against NEC Nijmegen (1-1).
