AZ also won its fourth competition match of the season. At home, coach Pascal Jansen’s team was too strong for Sparta Rotterdam 2-0. Halfway through the first half, Dani de Wit and Vangelis Pavlidis scored the Alkmaar goals. For the Rotterdam team it was the first defeat of the season in the Eredivisie.

Jansen made only one change compared to the won match against Vitesse (0-2): Ernest Poku had to make way for Mayckel Lahdo on the right flank. On the other side, coach Jeroen Rijsdijk also decided to only change the right winger position compared to the match against NEC Nijmegen (1-1). This time Pelle Clement was allowed to show himself from the first whistle, where Lars Larsen was given a starting spot for the international break.

Even before the end of the first quarter of the match, the Alkmaarders were already on a roll. The 1-0 came in the eighteenth minute, when Jordy Clasie received a through ball through the axis and laid the ball wide for De Wit. The attacking midfielder scored very convincingly from outside the box and left goalkeeper Nick Olij without a chance. Within a minute, AZ doubled its lead. This time De Wit acted as principal, who served Pavlidis with the head. The Greek striker turned free and shot into the bottom corner: 2-0.

In the opening phase of the second company, AZ had the opportunity to extend the lead several times, but due to the lack of fortune and sharpness, the scoreboard did not change. De Wit’s goal was disallowed for offside and Pavlidis failed to take advantage of two good opportunities. On the other hand, Tobias Lauritsen could have scored the tying goal, but he was unable to find the net.
