AC Milan failed to beat relegation candidate Sassuolo. Coach Stefano Pioli's team came back into the match several times, but a victory was not possible: 3-3. The draw puts Milan six points above number three Juventus. The point is especially meaningful for Sassuolo, which now has only one point less than number seventeen Frosinone.

Milan started the match weakly and had to pay for it with a goal in the fourth minute. Cristian Volpato crossed from the right and saw Kristian Thorstvedt extend the ball to Andrea Pinamonti, who struck with the right and left Mike Maignan without a chance: 1-0.

It didn't stop there for troubled Sassuolo, which made it 2-0 before the tenth minute. Armand Laurienté was sent deep and after his first attempt was saved by Maignan, the rebound was a prey for the Sassuolo attacker.

An extremely false start for Milan, who immediately started looking for the tying goal. It was thanks to Sassuolo goalie Andrea Consigli that Malick Thiaw was unable to head in. The Milan defender barely saw his header tipped over the crossbar.

Samuel Chukwueze headed home moments later, but the Nigerian was narrowly offside: the goal was disallowed. Leão's goal moments later stood. The Portuguese dribbled free and found the far corner: 2-1.

Milan did not make the best impression in the first phase after the break and soon had to concede the third goal in the second half. Grégoire Defrel found Laurienté in an outlaw position in the box and that was a bad idea from Milan. Maignan once again had no answer to the Sassuolo striker's attempt: 3-1.

However, Milan once again managed to recover, which led to the 3-2 before the hour mark. Leão was the boss of his direct opponent on the left and gave a sharp lead with the outside right. Consigli had a hand in that, but had no chance with Luka Jovic's rebound. The Serbian simply tapped in the rebound.

Almost immediately afterwards it became 3-3. Alessandro Florenzi sent a deep pass to Noah Okafor, who found the far corner with the outside left. Giroud still had the chance to score the winning goal, but in the end a victory was not possible for Milan.
