Latest update:

The match between Udinese and AC Milan came to a standstill on Saturday evening after half an hour of play. Immediately after the visitors had taken the lead through Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mike Maignan left the field visibly upset. The AC Milan goalkeeper was subjected to racist treatment by Udinese supporters and had had enough. “A powerful statement from Maignan,” said Ziggo Sports-commentator Joep Schrijvers.

The opening goal came in the 32nd minute. A low cross from Theo Hernández seemed to end up with Olivier Giroud, but the Milan striker cleverly let the ball run. This allowed Loftus-Cheek to score: 0-1.

Immediately afterwards, Maignan left the field visibly shaken. Milan's goalie informed referee Fabio Maresca that he had been treated racist by the hard core of Udinese. That box was behind Maignan's penalty area during the first half.

Maignan was addressed consolingly by his teammates, including by Dutch international Tijjani Reijnders. Both teams sought out the catacombs for a cooling-down period of approximately ten minutes.

The teams then entered the field, including Maignan. During the remainder of the first half, Udinese came back into the match. Lazar Samardzic left Maignan without a chance with a hard and low shot from outside the penalty area: 1-1.
