Excelsior captain Redouan El Yaakoubi gave an emotional interview on Friday evening after the 0-2 victory over ADO Den Haag. The defender fought back tears as the interview nearly ended and he faced ESPN told that a boy from his neighborhood Overvecht in Utrecht has died. He dedicates the goal that El Yaakoubi scored to him.

“I just want to say one last thing: a boy from my neighborhood passed away. And that boy… I’m a bit emotional about it”, says Yaakouri, when he gets tears in his eyes and speaks with a lump in his throat. “I also said: ‘If I go to a mosque, I will pray for him and I hope I score. If I score, I score for him. So this goal is for you and for all the Overfighters.” Excelsior took the lead on Friday evening after halftime via Jamal Amofa. Just before time, El Yaakoubi signed for the 0-2.
