Latest update:

Ajax are reportedly targeting Nuno Tavares. The Arsenal defender, who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, is reportedly being targeted by the English Sky Sports seen as a possible reinforcement for the left-back position.

If the Amsterdammers really want to sign Tavares, it will be a difficult deal financially. The 24-year-old Portuguese has a current contract and, according to Transfer market a value of fifteen million euros.

His current contract only runs for one more season, so Arsenal are unlikely to be keen on a loan move as Tavares can leave on a free transfer after this season.

At the same time, it will be difficult for Ajax to come up with an amount of or in the direction of fifteen million euros. So it is still questionable how realistic this possible deal is.

Tavares has been under contract in London since the summer of 2021. Arsenal took him over for eight million euros from Benfica, where Tavares was trained from the Under 17 team.

At the Emirates Stadium, the Portuguese youth international failed to break through, after which two loan periods followed. First to Olympique Marseille in the 2022/23 season and last season to Forest, where he made twelve appearances.

Amsterdam left backs

Last football season, the left-back position was a worry child for all Ajax coaches. Million-dollar purchase Borna Sosa could not live up to his price tag, while Anass Salah-Eddine, Gastón Ávila and Ar'Jany Martha also failed to impress.
