Erik Pieters will leave West Bromwich Albion this summer, the Championship club has announced. The expiring contract of the 35-year-old defender will not be extended.

Pieters was without a club two years ago after his contract with Burnley expired. He managed to stay working in England through West Bromwich Albion.

Pieters has been playing in Great Britain since 2013, although he spent six months on loan for Amiens SC in the 2018/19 season. West Bromwich was Pieters' third employer in England after Stoke City and Burnley.

Last season, Pieters joined West Bromwich Albion, making 25 appearances in all competitions. A year earlier he recorded 36 matches. It is not known whether the veteran wants to embark on a new adventure at the age of 35.

Pieters started his English adventure with six seasons at Stoke. In total, he made 206 appearances for the club, scoring three times and providing eleven assists. On behalf of the Potters he played in both the Championship and the Premier League.

After fifteen games on loan for Amiens in Ligue 1, Burnley took him over for 1.1 million euros. The dynamic left-footer played 56 games in the Premier League in three seasons for Burnley.

In the Netherlands, Pieters is best known for his time at PSV, where he won the TOTO KNVB Cup (2011/12) and the Johan Cruijff Shield (2008). He also played for FC Utrecht for two seasons. He wore the the Dutch shirt eighteen times.
