Sheffield United secured promotion to the Premier League on Wednesday evening. The Blades were 2-0 too strong for West Bromwich Albion at home, so that number two Sheffield can no longer be traced by close pursuer Luton Town. Sheffield did not succeed in the first half, but after the break Sander Berge and Anel Ahmedhodzic provided the redeeming hits. The team of trainer Paul Heckingbottom follows the trail of Burnley, which has already secured promotion. West Brom, the number nine in the Championship, still has a good chance of participating in the play-offs for promotion.
Particularities
Karlan Grant and Berge provided the most threat with their shots before the break, without any hits being scored. After the break, Sheffield continued to go for the redeeming opening goal. George Baldock first encountered West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer, but after an hour it was still hit. Iliman Ndiaye intercepted a very bad pass from the visitors, after which the Senegalese remained calm and offered Berge an opportunity not to be missed: 1-0. Fifteen minutes before the end, Ahmedhodzic closed the game. The Bosnian shot hit the far post, after a corner kick initially yielded nothing.
Sheffield United – West Bromwich Albion 2-0
58′ 1-0 Sander Berge (assist: Iliman Ndiaye)
76′ 2-0 Anel Ahmedhodzic (assist: George Baldock)
