Kenneth Perez does not know whether Feyenoord should consider itself lucky with the supporter crowdfunding campaign to keep Cyriel Dessers in Rotterdam. According to the analyst, it shows a certain poverty among the number three in the Eredivisie; an opinion that can count on the support of his table companions at football talk on ESPN. Dessers is currently rented from KRC Genk and can be taken over from the Belgian club for four million euros after this season.

Dessers has made himself immortal this season at Het Legioen. The Belgian striker has become unprecedentedly popular in Rotterdam due to his goals in the Conference League. The attacker scored two goals in the return match of the quarter-finals to visit Slavia Prague and in the first game in the semi-final against Olympique Marseille and is indispensable to the supporters of their club. To ensure that the Belgian does not return to Genk in the summer, the supporters have set up the crowdfunding campaign ‘Get Dessers to Feyenoord’, with which they hope to raise four million euros. The goal-getter is under contract in Belgium until the summer of 2024, but Feyenoord negotiated a transfer fee with which it can take over Dessers for four million euros.

“I believe they went to the barrel”, thinks Sjoerd Mossou football talk to know about the amount raised so far. However, the journalist of the Algemeen Dagblad agrees that Feyenoord in itself has little benefit from the action. “It’s super nice, but if you donate it you have to pay an incredible amount of tax on it. That’s just a waste of money. And if you were to make the supporters co-owners, there would be third party ownership (which has been banned by FIFA since May 2015, ed.).” Mossou then refers to a ‘smart remark’ by Arne Slot after the win against Fortuna Sittard (1-3). “He said: ‘Let it go. be an encouragement to the people who have real money – investors, lenders – to help us.”

Investor wants to keep Dessers in Rotterdam: ‘It could be the full blow’

Investor Dennis de Roo gave Monday opposite RTV Rijnmond indicated that he was willing to contribute financially to the crowdfunding campaign.Read article

Perez does not know at all whether Feyenoord should be happy with the action. “Is Feyenoord happy with this?”, the analyst wonders aloud. “This belongs to an amateur club.” “That’s right”, Mossou replies, “and that’s why they have it a bit downplayed† The joke is that there is another sponsor who has said that he also wants to help.” With this, Mossou refers to investor Dennis de Roo, who opposite RTV Rijnmond indicated that he is willing to add money to realize a transfer from Dessers.

“But Feyenoord is convinced that they really want to capture him, right?” says presenter Pascal Kamperman. “Yes, isn’t it almost unthinkable to say that you think four million is too much?”, Mossou thinks. “Well, if you don’t have it…”, Perez begins. “In general, there are conditions attached to it (if lenders help. ed.).” The former midfielder of Ajax, PSV and AZ, among others, would like to emphasize once again that he is still not completely convinced of Dessers. “There was a period when Bryan Linssen was the attack leader.
Dessers has done very well, but can he also do it next season?”

Technical director Frank Arnesen gave in early February in an interview with Football International also indicated that Feyenoord was not willing to buy Dessers. “While he’s doing what we hired him to do. Dessers is simply unlucky that Linssen is there. The trainer is really satisfied, but it is indeed true that as a club we are not able to take on such a player for such an amount.” The Telegraph reported Monday that Feyenoord still seems to want to take over from Genk. Dessers also played for KSC Lokeren, NAC Breda and FC Utrecht. At Heracles, the attacker scored fifteen goals in the 2019/20 season, making him joint top scorer in the Eredivisie, along with Steven Berghuis, who played for Feyenoord that season.
