The KNVB has exchanged the two toppers that are scheduled for Sunday 8 May, the football association announced via the official channels. AZ – Ajax now starts at 2.30 pm, while Feyenoord – PSV starts at 4.45 pm.

Feyenoord submitted a request to the KNVB on Tuesday to move the top match against PSV on 8 May to a later date. The team from Rotterdam will take on Olympique Marseille in the semifinals of the Conference League on Thursday that week and hoped to get a little longer rest. The request followed a comment by Feyenoord coach Arne Slot, who recently complained about the busy schedule of his team.

The KNVB announces two days later that Feyenoord’s request has been granted. “In the context of the change agenda of the clubs in the Eredivisie, such a request will be honored by the KNVB, provided it is feasible,” according to the KNVB. Switching the toppers also has consequences for the title race. Because Ajax will only come into action on May 8 after PSV, the team from Amsterdam may be able to secure the championship without taking action themselves, provided Ajax settles with AZ earlier in the day and PSV loses to Feyenoord later in the afternoon.
