Olympique Lyon knocked FC Porto out of the Europa League on Thursday evening. The team of trainer Peter Bosz won 0-1 in Portugal last week and drew 1-1 in the return. The elimination of Porto is good news for Dutch football, as Portugal is the main competitor in the coefficient ranking.

Olympique Lyon – FC Porto 1-1
Bosz could use a boost after the painful 2-4 defeat against Stade Rennes in the competition. His team also started the game well and opened the score in the thirteenth minute. Léo Dubois misled Porto’s defense with a nice arc to Moussa Dembélé, who appeared in front of Diogo Costa’s goal and pushed the ball past the keeper. However, a beautiful goal from Pepê, not to be confused with defender Pepe, evened the score.

The attacker beautifully shot out of the turn after a cross from Fabio Vieira and found the top left corner. In the second half, Porto’s chances were limited. Dembele ran into Diogo Costa in an attempt to put Lyon ahead again. Thirteen minutes before the end, goalkeeper Anthony Lopes of Lyon was almost surprised by a bet from defender Pepe, while the keeper in stoppage time prevented Vitinha from dragging an extension out of the fire for Portugal six meters from goal.
