Galatasaray booked a resounding victory in the Europa League on Thursday evening. At home, the Turkish formation was 4-2 too strong for Olympique Marseille. Thanks to this, the team of trainer Fatih Terim is sure of overwintering in the tournament, while the French still have to compete for a ticket for the Conference League in the last game with Lokomotiv Moscow. Galatasaray battles in the final game in Group E with Lazio for group win.

As usual, Patrick van Aanholt could count on a basic place, while Ryan Babel will settle for a place on the bench. Galatasaray got off to a great start, as the opening goal was already found in the twelfth minute of play. Alexandru Cicaldau captured the ball in midfield and got it back on the edge of the box after a combination with Sofiane Feghouli. Cicaldau created space for himself and outwitted goalkeeper Pau López with a diagonal slide. After half an hour of play, the score was doubled. After a cross from Cicaldau, the disoriented-looking Duje Caleta-Car outwitted his own goalkeeper: 2-0.

After more than an hour of play, the Turks ran even further away. After a nice pass from Kerem Aktürkoglu, Feghouli also managed to put his name on the scoreboard: 3-0. In the 68th minute, Arkadiusz Milik thought he could score an honorary goal from eleven meters. After a rash tackle by Olimpiu Morutan, arbiter Tobias Stieler pointed resolutely to the penalty. The former Ajax player initially failed to take advantage of the opportunity, but scored from the rebound: 3-1. In the final phase, Galatasaray increased the margin to three goals. Babel was allowed to come inside the lines in the 82nd minute, and scored the 4-1 within fifteen seconds on Marcão’s pass. A few minutes later, Milik put the 4-2 final score on the scoreboard with his second of the evening.
