According to Peter Bosz, Ajax is ‘really big in the world’. The trainer of Olympique Lyon was at the helm of the team from Amsterdam in the 2016/17 season and then worked for Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, while he now holds sway at Olympique Lyon. When he talks to colleagues about Ajax, he still notices what the club from Amsterdam is doing.

“In the summer we played with Lyon against Sporting Portugal. That trainer (Rúben Amorim, ed.) almost started to salivate when he talked about Ajax,” says Bosz in The Telegraph. “We also hit Villarreal. Their coach, Unai Emery, I think I was Erik ten Hag. He started in that last minute against Tottenham Hotspur. Then I just said that I was the coach who made it to the Europa League final a few years before…”

Bosz left Ajax after just one season. In Amsterdam an unworkable situation had arisen with a few people on his technical staff. In his own words, he does not see that as a scar. “That’s not how I live my life at all. I always try to learn and then move on. But believe me, Ajax is really big in the world. When you hear how all those people talk about the club, that says enough.”

Bosz was appointed last summer at Olympique Lyon, where he is the successor of Rudi Garcia. Under his leadership, the club from the south of France has had a disappointing start this season. After nine games, Lyon can be found in a disappointing tenth place in the ranking. Tonight Bosz’s team will play against AS Monaco. The home game is scheduled for 9 p.m.
