FC Utrecht booked a simple victory on Wednesday evening on a visit to NEC. Halfway through, the Domstedelingen already enjoyed a 0-1 lead, which was expanded even further in the second company: 0-3. Bart Ramselaar was the big man on the Utrecht side with two hits; Anastasios Douvikas got a starting spot and scored his third goal of the season. Thanks to the victory, René Hake’s team climbs to fourth place in the ranking for the time being, while the Nijmegen team is stuck in seventh position in the Eredivisie.
In the absence of the injured Simon Gustafson, Othman Boussaid was allowed to make his appearance in the number ten position. After eight minutes, the attacking midfielder immediately received an assist, although the goal could be fully attributed to Bart Ramselaar. The winger got the ball in front of his feet on the left side of the field and went in, before delivering a successful shot into the far corner from about 25 meters from the enemy goal: 0-1. Then NEC hoped to give something back.

In the eighteenth minute of play, the home team came close to scoring twice. First a shot by Mikkel Duelund was canned, and then Jonathan Okita’s effort also nipped in the bud. The greatest chance of the first company for the people of Nijmegen was noted by Elayis Tavsan. The winger intercepted a miserable wide pass in Mike van der Hoorn’s own half and was given free passage to Maarten Paes’ goal, but the shot that followed was touched and landed on the top of the crossbar.
In the second act, Utrecht took more distance from the opponent. Just when NEC seemed to be taking more risks in an attempt to force the equalizer, Douvikas struck. The Greek striker received the ball from Boussaid, quickly turned away and shot flawlessly: 0-2. The curtain finally fell eleven minutes before the end of regular time. After a nice pass by Mimoun Mahi, Ramselaar made room for the shot and scored the 0-3 in a cool way.
