The match between OGC Nice and Olympique Marseille in the Ligue 1 must be played again, the disciplinary committee of the French Football Association (FFF) determined on Wednesday evening. The Southern French derby was halted on August 22 after significant disturbances with fifteen minutes to go and with a score of 1-0. The duel between the rivals must also be played on neutral ground and, of course, behind closed doors.

In the 75th minute, Dimitri Payet was fed up with being pelted again by the home crowd when he took a corner, before tossing a bottle back to the fanatic fans. Supporters of OGC Nice stormed the field and sought a confrontation with Payet and his teammates, among others. Several staff members from both OGC Nice and Olympique Marseille also clashed.

OGC Nice wanted to resume the game after a cooling off period, but Marseille was no longer on the field. The disciplinary committee has deducted OGC Nice a point and the club of Pablo Rosario, Justin Kluivert and Calvin Stengs must play a total of three home games without an audience, including the duel with Marseille.

The disciplinary committee handed out suspensions to Payet and Álvaro González, who have to miss one and two games of Olympique Marseille respectively. Conditioning coach Pablo Fernández, who came onto the field and punched a Nice supporter, was even suspended until June 30, 2022.
