The flame was burned into the pan on Sunday evening during the match between OGC Nice and Olympique Marseille. Sixteen minutes before the end, supporters of the home team came onto the field en masse, after Dimitri Payet was hit by a bottle from the audience and threw that bottle back. Nice supporters then took to the field in large numbers and targeted players from Olympique Marseille. The match has been stopped; Nice led 1-0 thanks to a goal from Kasper Dolberg.
Olympique Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli was visibly furious and had to be restrained by his club’s staff. Also the players of l’OM were furious at the striking events. It is not yet known whether the competition in the Allianz Riviera will be resumed. It was Nice’s first era since the stadiums reopened.
