Joe Willock has definitively left Arsenal for Newcastle United, both clubs announce through the official channels. The 21-year-old midfielder has already spent the past six months on a rental basis at the Magpies and has now been definitively taken over, as a result of which he has signed a multi-year contract. Various media report that 29 million euros is involved in the switch from Willock.

Willock had an extremely successful loan spell at Newcastle United last season. The midfielder played a total of fourteen games, of which eleven as a basic player and in which he was good for no less than eight goals. “I’m very happy to be back,” Willock said on the official website of his new employer. “It is obviously a big step to leave Arsenal, I would like to thank everyone at the club for their support over the years. This is the right step at the right time for me.”

The youth international for England went through the youth academy of the Gunners and eventually made 78 appearances in the main squad, but was not really in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta now. Despite a contract that runs until mid-2023, Arsenal has therefore cooperated in the departure of Willock. The midfielder will play at Newcastle United with shirt number 28 and will not be in the party next Sunday if the Magpies open the season with a home game against West Ham United.
