Junior Firpo exchanges Barcelona for Leeds United, report this RAC1 and The Athletic. The 24-year-old full-back’s transition to the Premier League has been in the air for a while, but he has now set foot on English soil and will be presented on Monday. Barcelona will leave an amount of 15 million euros to Firpo, which will be paid over two installments.

Mundo Deportivo and Sport reported a week ago that Barcelona and Leeds United were in advanced negotiations over Firpo. An agreement has now been reached, whereby Firpo has traveled to England for the medical examination and presentation in Leeds. If no problems come to light during the medical examination, he will sign a four-year contract. RAC1 reports that Firpo will earn twice as much as at Barcelona.

Barcelona have to settle for a loss of three million euros on Firpo. The Catalans transferred an amount of eighteen million euros to Real Betis in the summer of 2019. Leeds United are now paying fifteen million euros to buy off his contract that runs until mid-2024. AC Milan was also in the market for Firpo, but he became convinced of a transfer to Leeds United partly due to the interference of manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Firpo never managed to secure a starting spot in the Camp Nou, partly due to the presence of Jordi Alba. The former international of Young Spain played a total of 41 official games for Barcelona. Ronald Koeman made little use of him last season: eighteen times, seven of which made appearances as a basic player. With the arrival of Firpo, Leeds United are capitalizing on the possible departure of Ezgjan Alioski, whose contract has expired. The international of North Macedonia can sign, but has not yet done so.
