Arkadiusz Milik will not be admired at the European Championship. The 27-year-old striker from Poland ran a race against time last day to recover in time from a knee injury. Despite intensive treatments, this was not successful and Milik left the Polish training camp.

Milik played on a rental basis for Olympique Marseille for the past six months and was injured in the last league match on May 23. The former Ajax attacker nevertheless reported to the Polish national team, where he worked hard on his recovery with the medical staff. Over two weeks, Milik underwent several treatments according to a strictly defined plan, which should allow him to return to full training load.

On Monday, Milik’s knee, who scored 15 times in 59 international matches, was tested during training and it turned out that the striker has not recovered enough to participate in the European Championship. In consultation with the staff, Milik decided to leave the training camp. National coach Paulo Sousa does not call for a replacement. Milik will return to Napoli, where he will continue to work on his rehabilitation.

The European Championship adventure for Poland in Group E kicks off on June 14, against Slovakia at the Krestovsky Stadium in St. Petersburg. This is followed by the other two group matches for the Sousa selection corps: Spain (June 19) in Seville and Sweden (June 23) again in Saint Petersburg.
