Abdou Harroui has been in the spotlight of Rangers, you know Football Insider to reveal. Scouts of the Scottish champion saw the Sparta Rotterdam midfielder at work during the matches of the Dutch Juniors at the European Championship against Young France (1-2 victory) and Young Germany (1-2 defeat). Rangers must pay a transfer fee anyway, because Harroui’s contract with Sparta will continue for another year.

According to the above medium, the technical leadership of Rangers is seriously considering making an offer in Rotterdam. Harroui was one of the stars of Sparta last season, which finished in eighth place in the Eredivisie. The 23-year-old midfielder, who was often used as a controller by coach Henk Fraser, closed the season with six goals and three assists in 32 games. Manager Steven Gerrard is looking to rejuvenate Rangers’ midfield as Scott Arfield (32) and Steven Davis (36) have two central midfielders who have already passed the age of 30. In addition, it is unclear about the stay of Glen Kamara.

Football Insider also associates Harroui with Leeds United, as a competitor of Kalvin Phillips, and Brighton & Hove Albion. The young midfielder of Jong Orane does not intend to extend his contract with Sparta until 2022. The Lords of the Castle therefore seem compelled to sell it this summer, to prevent it from walking out the door for free a year later.

Gerrard reportedly also had his eye on Joey Veerman, who extended his contract with sc Heerenveen last year until the summer of 2024. However, various Italian media report that Atalanta has better papers to pluck the midfielder from the Eredivisie. The Rangers manager has already secured the services of Nnamdi Ofoborh (Bournemouth) and Fashion Sakala (KV Oostende) for next season.
