Setback for England in the run-up to the European Championship. Mason Greenwood is no longer part of the preliminary selection of national coach Gareth Southgate due to injuries, his employer Manchester United reports on Tuesday morning. The attacker wants to fully recover and misses the approaching final round. Due to the ‘underlying injury’, Greenwood also missed the group stage of the youth European Championship with Young England in March.

Greenwood will now work on his recovery at Manchester United’s training complex, so that he is ready to start preparing for the new season. The multifunctional striker therefore remains in the shirt of one international match the Three Lions stand. Greenwood still had a basic place in the final of the Europa League against Villarreal last Wednesday, although manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took him out prematurely.

According to The Athletic Jesse Lingard can also put a stop to the European Championship. The attacking midfielder of Manchester United has made a strong impression at West Ham United in recent months on a rental basis. Nevertheless, Southgate has no place for him, or so it sounds from England. It is expected that the English elected lord will reduce the provisional selection of 33 players to 26 players this Tuesday.
