Sergio Agüero does not have to count on a continuation of his career at Barcelona. The 32-year-old attacker, who officially announced his retirement from Manchester City on Monday, says Sport and Mundo Deportivo not on trainer Ronald Koeman’s wish list. The transfer-free Agüero in a few months is not a priority for Koeman with a view to next season, it sounds from Spain.

Koeman reportedly prefers the arrival of Depay, who can leave Olympique Lyon on a free transfer after this season. The coach of the Catalan superpower thinks that the the Dutch international fits much better in the game system of Barcelona because of his versatility, while Agüero can only be used as a pure finisher in Koeman’s eyes. In addition, 26-year-old Depay can compete at top level for years to come and the injury-prone Argentinian, who celebrates his 33rd birthday in June, has arrived in the autumn of his career.

Earlier rumors circulated in the Spanish media that chairman Joan Laporta would have already spoken with Agüero about a future collaboration, but due to the position taken by Koeman, a deal seems to have been definitively canceled. The Barcelona coach acknowledges that the top Manchester City striker can still be of value with his offensive qualities, but the future is clearly looking at younger options.

According to Mundo Deportivo Depay’s possible arrival is independent of the interest in Erling Braut Haaland. Despite the financial constraints imposed by the corona crisis, the Borussia Dortmund striker remains a Koeman favorite. ESPN reported last week that the German superpower is demanding at least 180 million euros for Haaland, an amount that currently does not seem feasible for Barcelona. Romelu Lukaku (Internazionale) are put forward as alternatives. A few years ago, Koeman worked at Everton for a short time together with the Belgian striker of the leader in the Serie A.
