Mario Balotelli may continue his career at Barnsley. Sky Sports reports Wednesday morning that the current number sixteen in the Championship has carefully inquired with the management of the Italian attacker. Balotelli can be picked up by clubs on a transfer-free basis after he left Brescia last summer despite an ongoing contract.

The BBC has since confirmed that there has been a first meeting between the club management of Barnsley and agent Mino Raiola. Balotelli has the Tykes, as the nickname of the English club is, not yet definitively rejected, it sounds in various English media. The now thirty-year-old striker has also recently been associated with Vasco da Gama, although it is uncertain whether he wishes to continue his career in the Brazilian league.

Fiorentina also seems to be in the market for Balotelli, it reports La Gazzetta dello Sport. Cesare Prandelli is the trainer at the latter club. He still knows Balotelli from his tenure with the Italian national team. Under his leadership la Squadra Azzurra the final of the European Championship in 2012. The former attacker of Olympique Marseille and AC Milan, among others, is currently maintaining his fitness level at the modest Franciacorta, pending further developments.

Balotelli is certainly no stranger to the English football world. He was under contract with Manchester City for several years, with the league title in 2012 as the absolute highlight of his period there. Shortly thereafter, another less successful adventure followed at Liverpool. Balotelli played for Internazionale and OGC Nice further in his career.
