It doesn’t seem to be going well anymore between José Mourinho and Dele Alli. According to, among others The Athletic the attacking midfielder is not included in the game selection of Tottenham Hotspur for the game against Burnley on Monday evening. Alli has been passed by Mourinho more than once this season, raising doubts about his future in North London in the English media.

Alli is currently not suffering from an injury, which seems to indicate that Mourinho no longer sees it in the Englishman. The midfielder took part in the opening game with LASK Linz (3-0) in the group stage of the Europa League last Thursday for half an hour. After the European performance, Alli showed his satisfaction by posting on his social media channels. “I am always grateful that I can do what I like best,” wrote the 37-time international of England, whose current contract will run for another four years.

Should Alli actually be missing against Burnley, it will be the fifth time this season that Mourinho will not include him in the Tottenham match selection. The 24-year-old midfielder has only played twice in competition so far. Only in the opening game against Everton (0-1 defeat) Alli had a starting place, although he was already replaced after 45 minutes. In the 1-6 away game against Manchester United, Mourinho only allowed him to come in.

The status of reserve player has been a topic of discussion in the English media for some time. In the final phase of the transfer market, Alli was linked with a transfer to Internazionale or Paris Saint-Germain. However, a definitive deal with Tottenham was not made. Mourinho announced shortly afterwards that Alli has not yet been written off the Spurs, but that his fate is “99 percent in his own hands.” The Portuguese manager added that by now he was getting tired of the many questions about the passed midfielder.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas, currently working as an analyst, is worried that there is no future for Alli at Tottenham, although he keeps the door ajar. “I’m sure he would love to prove himself to Mourinho and José knows what Dele can add to the team. But then Dele will have to fight back into the team first,” said Jenas at BT Sport.
