Chelsea have their desired new goalkeeper. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano from the guardian and Sky Italia reported Friday afternoon that the offer of the blues at Edouard Mendy was accepted by Stade Rennes. The transfer of the 28-year-old closing post will be completed in the coming days and he is expected to arrive in London soon for the medical examination.

After a short tussle with the defender, Frank Lampard finally tucked the ball home. Kepa Arrizabalaga was taken over by Athletic Club for 80 million euros two years ago, but has not yet lived up to the high expectations and was transferred in favor of Willy Caballero in the last game of the season. Over the past few months, several big names at Chelsea have gone through the search for a new goalkeeper.

In addition to Marc-André Ter Stegen, Nick Pope and Jan Oblak, Ajax goalkeeper André Onana has been explicitly linked with a move to Chelsea. However, an agreement has now been reached with Stade Rennes over Mendy. Romano said on Monday night that it was expected that both clubs would soon reach an agreement on a transfer fee of just over twenty million euros. Chelsea saw an increased offer accepted by the French club on Friday afternoon, and Mendy will soon be flying to London for the medical examination. There was a personal similarity between the closing item and the blues.

Mendy is a 1m97 goalkeeper who was born in France but plays his international matches for Senegal. He broke through at Stade Reims and was picked up by Stade Rennes in 2019 for just four million euros, where his contract was still valid until mid-2023. The reds and blacks the goalkeeper enjoys and now seems to be making a lot of money from him. After Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz, Mendy is Chelsea’s seventh addition. By the way is the blues not finished yet, because according to Romano, Declan Rice of West Ham United is the next target after Mendy.
