Hakim Ziyech dropped out in the European Super Cup match on Wednesday evening. The 28-year-old Chelsea attacking midfielder got off to a great start by scoring the opening goal against Villarreal, but suffered a shoulder or collarbone injury just before half-time. Ziyech was treated for minutes and eventually replaced by Christian Pulisic. After the rest he returned to the bench with a sling around his right arm.

It went wrong for Ziyech in the 39th minute in a header match with Juan Foyth, in which the former Ajax player seemed to twist his arm or shoulder unhappily. After treatment by the medical staff, it turned out that Ziyech could not continue. The stretcher that was present was not necessary, because the offensive midfielder was able to walk off the field independently. He did, however, keep his right arm bent against his body. He also had a face contorted with pain.

A huge downer for Ziyech, who had just started the match so well. In the 27th minute, the attacking midfielder saw a run from the right wing into the penalty area rewarded by Kai Havertz, who served him with a low cross from the left. Ziyech did not hit the ball optimally, but his tapper was enough to pass Sergio Asenjo: 1-0.
