Willem van Hanegem has every confidence in a Feyenoord victory over Ajax. The arch rivals will compete against each other on Wednesday evening in the semi-finals of the TOTO KNVB Cup. The club icon of the Rotterdammers thinks that Feyenoord will win the match in De Kuip ‘easily’. “You see Ajax playing, don’t you? That’s sad.”

Van Hanegem says in conversation with RTV Rijnmond to think that it will be 3-1 for Feyenoord. “You are looking at me as if I am out of my mind,” says Van Hanegem in conversation with reporter Dennis van Eersel. The journalist says he has the feeling that ‘the average Feyenoord supporter has never looked forward to the Classic so relaxed’. “I also encountered a few this week who didn’t like it,” Van Hanegem replies. “Well that they become champions, but…”

“I just think they win easily,” continues Van Hanegem, who is then asked by Van Eersel why he thinks that. “Listen, you’re a goddamn sports journalist! You see Ajax playing. That’s sad. So that must be the reason, right?” Van Eersel states that Van Hanegem ‘was even less positive about Feyenoord not so long ago’, but that the former footballer has come around in recent weeks. “That’s right,” says Van Hanegem. “You’re going to ask me all kinds of questions that don’t make any sense at all,” closes the Curve off with a smile.

Feyenoord and Ajax kick off at 8 p.m. in De Kuip. Oussama Idrissi returns to the base of trainer Arne Slot’s team after a suspension. That is at the expense of Igor Paixão. On the side of Ajax, Steven Bergwijn returns to the team, so that Dusan Tadic moves to the striker position and Brian Brobbey has to take a seat on the bench. The winner of the game will face PSV on Sunday, April 30 in De Kuip, which defeated SV Spakenburg (1-2) in the other semi-final on Tuesday.
