Ole Romeny exchanges NEC on a rental basis for Willem II, both clubs announce Wednesday afternoon. The Tricolores have also negotiated the option to bring the twenty-year-old attacker to Tilburg permanently next year. Romeny’s current commitment to NEC will continue for nearly two more years. The young striker will wear the shirt with number 15 at Willem II.

Last year Willem II also took over a player on a rental basis from NEC with Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye. The attacker made an impression and the option to buy in the lease with the people of Nijmegen was therefore exercised. It is hoped that Romeny will again have a talented attacker in house. He made his professional football debut in 2018, scoring 10 goals in 64 matches so far. “Willem II has a playing style that really appeals to me. Offensive and well-groomed football. I want to make as many minutes as possible and show what I can do. I am looking forward to it”, the acquisition says on the website of his new club.

Wilco van Schaik, general director of NEC, explains why Romeny is temporarily switching to Willem II. “We have had many and long conversations with Ole and his management in the context of his development. We have made a conscious choice together by allowing him to take the next step in his development in a different environment. Willem II is a club where he can develop further, given his qualities. Sometimes a different environment gives you that extra push and we hope that this also applies to Ole “, said the NEC director.

Romeny had no complaints about interest. Football International reports that in addition to Willem II, the attacker was also followed by sc Heerenveen, Manchester City, Norwich City, Leeds United, Brentford FC, Juventus, Bologna, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Real Sociedad in his sights. He may already make his debut for Willem II on Sunday in the home game against Feyenoord.
