Willem II has booked the second victory since the arrival of Zeljko Petrovic a few weeks ago. The number sixteen in the Eredivisie was 0-2 too strong for Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday afternoon, which seems to be engaged in a free fall. Halfway through the second half of the disappointing game at Het Kasteel, Ché Nunnely opened the score on behalf of Willem II and more than ten minutes later the game finally slipped out of Sparta’s hands, when Jeffry Fortes caused a penalty kick and had to leave the field with a red card.

In the first half in Rotterdam, Sparta still had a predominance, without the team of trainer Henk Fraser being able to enforce great opportunities. Willem II lurked on the counter and via Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye, the visitors from Tilburg almost took the lead after about half an hour of play. Vangelis Pavlidis served the attacker tailor-made, but Trésor saw his bet disappear just next to Sparta’s goal. Before half time, however, both teams were unable to force a breakthrough, so that the 0-0 score at half time was only logical.

After 67 minutes of play at Het Kasteel, Willem II finally managed to break the spell. After a good action on Pol Llonch’s flank, the ball landed at Trésor. The left-footed winger then put the ball on Nunnely’s head, who beat Fortes in the air and let the 0-1 sign, to the delight of everyone and everything. the Tricolores. In the 78th minute things went completely wrong for the poor Sparta, when Fortes committed a not too foul foul on Kwasi Okyere Wriedt, close to the goal of the home team.

Referee Kevin Blom went to the side to take a good look at the situation on the video screen and on the advice of the VAR, the referee drew a red card for Fortes, who thus had a dramatic raid. Trésor went behind the ball and the winger was able to use the penalty kick flawlessly: 0-2. Maduka Okoye prevented shortly before the final whistle with a good save that Wriedt could score the 0-3 for Willem II. Petrovic’s team takes important points in the fight against relegation, as seventeenth place has been transferred to ADO Den Haag by the victory. Sparta, however, as number thirteen, has to look more and more over his shoulder.
