Wesley Sneijder will follow a management course at two renowned universities, the Oranje-record international itself reports in Veronica Offside. Sneijder has been admitted to the Nyenrode Business University and the famous American Harvard University. “That will soon allow me to go in both directions: a management position or a position as head coach,” says Sneijder.

Sneijder has been looking for a new role in football for some time. The former midfielder spoke to Maurice Steijn about a position at Ajax, but that seems to be off the table for the time being. Sneijder will be busy with two training courses in the coming months. “I am going to take a leadership course at Nyenrode Business University. That is why I started the trainer course at the KNVB a few years ago. I wanted to be guided in this, but that was not possible at the time.” Sneijder quit because the KNVB did not want to offer a tailor-made trainer course.

The Nyenrode training is completely separate from sports. “It really has to do with management,” Sneijder explains. “How do you become a real leader? I want to find out, through self-reflection and also feedback from others. The training is a practical form. You work in groups. That really appealed to me. It takes a total of a number of months. It’s a number of blocks of two days, and then again for a while.”

Sneijder will take not one, but two courses at the same time. “I was also admitted to Harvard. Nyenrode is the practice and this is the theory. That is online, also in a different language. I think that is important. If you want to go international in the future, you simply need that.” Sneijder expects to be working on the studies until approximately April 2024.
