Ajax ran into a minor disgrace on Tuesday in its preparation for the new season. Erik ten Hag’s team was unable to deal with the amateurs of Quick’20 in Oldenzaal. Mohammed Kudus gave Ajax the lead just before half-time, which was given away ten minutes before the end: 1-1.

At Ajax, the Dutch internationals such as Daley Blind and Ryan Gravenberch are still on holiday, while Lisandro Martínez and Nicolás Tagliafico are active in the Copa América with Argentina. The team from Amsterdam therefore performed with a mix of Young Ajax and first team players. Captain Dusan Tadic was the eye-catcher of the basic team, in which goalkeeper Jay Gorter, taken over from Go Ahead Eagles, also made an appearance. David Neres and Danilo, among others, also had a base place.

In the first half, Ajax had difficulty creating great opportunities, which turned out to be few. In the opening phase, Lisandro Magallán had a good header chance, which was parried by goalkeeper Chiel ter Braak. On the other side, Ajax midfielder Enric Llansana had to leave the field on a stretcher after an unfortunate hard collision with Gorter. In the final phase of the first half, Tadic set Danilo free for Ter Braak, who did not let himself be deflected. In the injury time, Ajax still managed to open the score, when Mohammed Kudus took a header from a corner and rounded off cool-blooded from close by: 0-1.

In the counterattack, Ajax turned out to be very vulnerable. Quick’20 broke out dangerously several times and after a bad pass from Magallán Frank Ulderink broke through. Gorter cleverly prevented the attacker of the amateur club from scoring with a reflex. After the break, Ten Hag brought in an almost completely new team, including Remko Pasveer, Perr Schuurs, Noussair Mazraoui and Zakaria Labyad.

Quick’20 also defended itself brilliantly in the second half. Kristian Hlynsson, who was picked from Iceland by Ajax last year, had a good shooting chance after a low cross from Labyad, but substitute goalie Maarten Meijer saved with his foot. Ajax kept looking for the attack, but really great opportunities did not come out. In the 81st minute, Quick’20 struck on the counter. Issy Wevers got the ball back on the edge of the sixteen and placed it nicely in the bottom corner with his instep: 1-1.
