Chelsea may have suffered the first defeat of the season in the Champions League on Tuesday-evening, but it was enough to reach the semi-finals. After the 0-2 victory in the first game, the team of trainer Thomas Tuchel could afford a minimal defeat thanks to a beautiful bicycle kick from Mehdi Taremi: 0-1. It is already the eighth time that Chelsea has joined the last four of the Champions League; more than any English club.

It was not a spectacular reunion at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. There were only three shots on target: one for Chelsea and two for FC Porto. Two of the three, a bet by Christian Pulisic and the bicycle kick from Taremi, also came about in extra time. The direct hit gave FC Porto only the second win ever in the knockout phase of the Champions League. In addition to the victory at Deportivo la Coruña in 2003/04, FC Porto drew six times and lost thirteen times.
