Nikolai Baden Frederiksen is no longer under contract with Vitesse, the club announced on Friday morning through official channels. The striker returned from a rental period at Austrian SC Austria Lustenau in January, but will not play for Vitesse in the second half of the season. His contract has been terminated and Frederiksen has now found a new club in the form of Lyngby BK.

This puts an end to the Dane's unsuccessful employment with Vitesse after two and a half seasons. The Arnhem team has not been interested in Frederiksen for a long time and has signed him several times at another club.

The attacker was loaned out for the first time in the winter of February. At the time, the Hungarian Ferencváros saw merit in his arrival, but after half a season Frederiksen returned to the GelreDome.

This was followed by a loan to SC Austria Lustenau, which plays at the highest level in Austria. This adventure was also not a success and so the 23-year-old left leg returned to Gelderland. However, Vitesse and the player are taking a different approach on this return. Both parties see little future in a longer collaboration and have therefore decided to part ways.

“With the termination of the rental contract with Lustenau and the contract with Vitesse, Frederiksen has the opportunity to look for another club,” the relegation candidate writes in a press release. “Vitesse thanks the attacker and wishes him every success in his further career.”

That further career starts in Denmark. Frederiksen signs a contract for 3.5 seasons with the Danish mid-table Lyngby BK and hopes to revive his career.

Vitesse acquired the Danish youth international from the Juventus youth academy for just under two million euros in the summer of 2021. Frederiksen is therefore eleventh on the list of most expensive incoming transfers from Vitesse and has proven to be a very expensive bad buy. Ultimately, the attacker played 58 games for Vitesse, in which he scored 13 goals and 3 assists.
