John van den Brom is the 'top candidate' to take on the coaching position of Vitesse, club watcher Lex Lammers writes on behalf of The Gelderlander. The trainer has already had several conversations with the Arnhem team.

According to the regional magazine, Vitesse club management hopes to present a new coach at the end of the month, as current interim coach Edward Sturing has indicated that he does not want to continue as head coach next season.

Van den Brom is a real clubman. As a player he was active for Vitesse between 1986 and 1993 and 1996 and 2000. In the past, in the 2011/12 season, he was also ultimately responsible for the Arnhem team.

And now the coach is open to another employment contract with Vitesse. The tough job awaits him to pull Vitesse out of the muck to some extent. Van den Brom is aware of the challenge, but would like to lend a hand to the ailing club.

“I'm worried about the club,” the clubman is quoted by The Gelderlander. “I would like to help. Preferably in the Eredivisie, but also in the first division,” Van den Brom does not hide behind the challenge.

However, there are still some snags to the possible arrival of the trainer. “Vitesse wants to be part of the region again. That's nice. But there is nothing concrete. Some things still have to be arranged for a contract.”

In the meantime, Vitesse must make every effort to retain the professional license. New director Edwin Reijntjes hopes to hear back from the KNVB on Monday about a 'concept plan' that should guarantee the club's survival, he says on the club website.
