Lois Openda will remain loyal to Vitesse next season. The Arnhem club reports in a statement on the club site on Wednesday afternoon that Club Brugge will let the 21-year-old attacker play on a rental basis in the Netherlands after the summer break. Openda, with a continuous contract with the Belgian champion until mid-2023, was one of the most important players in the selection of trainer Thomas Letsch last season.

“I look forward to playing another season for Vitesse”, the happy Openda responded on Wednesday after signing the leases. “My first year, in which we achieved European football, went very well. Then it is extra nice to play in the Conference League with Vitesse. We also want to have another good season in the competition.” Vitesse finished the season in fourth place, forcing them to qualify for the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

“Loïs has not only developed well in his first year, but has also been important for the team”, technical director Johannes Spors compliments the mercenary. “Both Loïs and Vitesse wanted to continue together for another year. A good basis for a second season in which he can show himself again. Also thanks to Club Brugge for making the rental period possible after pleasant negotiations.” Goalkeeper Daan Reiziger, midfielder Toni Domgjoni and attacker Julian von Moos have already been added to the selection for next season.

Openda scored 13 goals and 5 assists in 38 games on behalf of Vitesse in all competitions in the 2020/21 season. The highlight was his winning goals against Excelsior (0-1) in the quarterfinals of the TOTO KNVB Cup and PSV (2-1) in the Eredivisie. The attacker also signed for the equalizer in the cup final against Ajax, although that was not enough to prevent Vitesse’s 2-1 defeat in De Kuip.
